The Masurian Lake District is an exceptional region both nationwide and Europe-wide. It stands out due to its manifold flora and fauna as well as its architectural monuments. Tourists, water sports fans and anglers just love it.
What is more, the Masurian Lake District is famous for its numerous habitats of rare water birds. Watchful visitors may take a glimpse at the cormorant, being the symbol of Masuria, the great crested grebe, the heron or the mute swan. Besides, the region is inhabited by otters, beavers, terrapins, elks, various kinds of bats and colourful dragonflies. Another outstanding attraction is the rutting season of red deer in September and October.

However, it is tourism and water sports that play the most important role when it comes to the region's economy. The most important places of interest are Giżycko, Mikołajki, Węgorzewo, Pisz, Kętrzyn. Here, you will find several nature reserves and the Masurian Landscape Preserving Park.

Still, the most meaningful attraction of the Masurian Lake District is the lakes itself. They feature Poland's largest lakes such as Śniardwy (113,8 km²), Mamry (105 km²), Niegocin, Orzysz and Tałty.
